Pacific Views

Tuesday, December 19 - achingly clear, almost cold windy days and lows at night in the forties, with frost warnings out in the valleys. Winter has come to Los Angeles. The Pacific is a flat mirror in the long afternoon light. This is the view from Mulholland Drive - visibility unlimited.

Winter Bird

A backlit Marbled Godwit (Limosa fedoa), with bubbles, Manhattan Beach, Los Angeles, 12 December 2006. It's not much of an avian study, but the composition might give you a sense of winter at the beach.

Hollywood Stars

This place is crazy. These people are dead, and don't matter - maybe they never did matter. This is a storefront down on Melrose Avenue - Aardvark's. Make of it what you will.

Christmas - Traditional and Non-Traditional

The Guaranty Building for the Guaranty Building and Loan Association, 6331 Hollywood Boulevard, 1923, John C. Austin, architect. Charlie Chaplin and Cecil B. DeMille invested in this building that attracted tenants like gossip columnist Hedda Hopper. Now it is the headquarters of the Church Of Scientology International. Nice Wreath.

Winter in LA is best thought of as a negative - this, the beach at the end of the north runway at LAX.
