Note: These are digital photographs I snapped using a Sony Mavica digital still camera (MVC-FD-88) with built-in digital zoom (telephoto).  Feel free to use them as you will.  If you use any of these photos for commercial purposes I assume you'll discuss that with me.  Note: These are thumbnail previews.  To see a full-size high-resolution version of a particular photograph click on the "thumbnail" image.  You will see the full image in a separate window.

February begins today, Sunday.   Winter.

The voice on the radio tells me that there is a storm coming late tomorrow, barreling down the coast from the north.  By Tuesday we may have high winds, heavy surf and heavy rain - and perhaps thunderstorms and funnel clouds.  But today?  Sunny and clear and near seventy, with just a light breeze off the Pacific.  But it is winter - as you see this bird outside my window in the palm tree is hunkering down, preparing for the worst.

Trees in winter here?

  • We have our pines in the hazy ocean sunlight
  • And deciduous bare branches
  • But we have green, shady lanes too
  • And for no good reason fruit trees in full bloom
  • And the odd banana-pine in a Beverly Hills driveway

And I was going to do a close-up of the Hollywood sign, instead of the long shots I've published, but you couldn't get to it easily.  These signs are everywhere in the hills.  This particular one may refer to some other sign, the no-so-famous "Hollwood Sign."

Must have been a bad day at the sign shop...
