These are digital photographs I snapped using a Sony Mavica digital
still camera (MVC-FD-88) with built-in digital zoom (telephoto). Feel free to use them as you will. If you use
them for commercial purposes I assume you'll disucss that with me.
These are thumbnail previews. To see a full-size high-resolution
version of a particular photograph click on the "thumbnail" image. You will see the full image in a separate
window.
This week's photographs are "local oddities"
- excluding me. Los Angeles, and particulary Hollywood can surprise you. Turn any corner and who knows what
you'll find? But the local take on France, and Paris, is a bit off-center.

For the "fashionistas" - Once you're in Beverly Hills you will probably roll down to Rodeo Drive. Here you'll find this high-end fashion place for those severely thin, leather-skinned and lifted older women in their Benz convertibles. The name of the place, Boulmiche, is the slang term for Boulevard St-Michel in Paris. The irony is that if you start at the Seine and walk up Boulmiche to the Luxembourg Gardens, past the Sorbonne and all that, you'll find Boulmiche is one pretty tacky place. There are great bookstores when you start up the hill but then you find discount jeans and cheap electronics and finally just junk. I would not have named this store Boulmiche. The other store is on Melrose Avenue, a few miles to the west. Melrose reminds me of the real Boulmiche. Trendy and tacky at the same time. This store, Retail Slut, has been here a long time. The store next to it closed so I missed photographing Shitload of Shoes. For those of you who are Francophiles, Johnny Halladay buys his jeans and sunglasses on this part of Melrose. |

What can I say? Los Angeles is multi-cultural. This is at the corner
of Hollywood Boulevard and Western Avenue. I had no idea the hotdog with chopped onions was a native Thai dish.
